RRI.CO.ID, Hyderabad – Indonesian Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, has proposed that BRICS member countries strengthen cooperation in forecasting future workforce skills needs as a basis for developing employment and training policies that are more adaptive to changes in the world of work.
He presented the proposal during the 2026 BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting (LEMM) in Hyderabad, India, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. He urged member states to make future skills forecasting one of the key areas of cooperation under BRICS CONNECT.
“Through BRICS CONNECT, Indonesia believes it is essential to strengthen our shared understanding of future employment and skills needs. Therefore, Indonesia proposes that future skills forecasting become one of the priority areas of cooperation within BRICS CONNECT,” Yassierli said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
According to him, forecasting future skills is crucial for helping BRICS countries anticipate shifts in labor market demands driven by technological advances, industrial transformation, demographic changes, and the transition to a green economy. It would also help identify the skills required by the labor market and align training policies with industry needs.
During the meeting, he also highlighted Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen labor market resilience, including expanding access to vocational training and social protection for informal workers, establishing a Task Force on Layoffs, strengthening the Job Loss Insurance (JKP) program, and increasing employment opportunities for women, persons with disabilities, and communities in remote areas.
He said the government is also developing vocational training centers and employment services for persons with disabilities equipped with assistive technologies. In addition, Indonesia is strengthening its National Apprenticeship Program, targeting 150,000 participants, and its National Vocational Training Program, which aims to reach 300,000 participants in 2026.
The Minister emphasized that Indonesia views BRICS as a strategic platform for strengthening South-South cooperation, sharing experiences, and delivering practical solutions for workers, businesses, and communities.
“Indonesia is ready to work with all BRICS member countries to build a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable world of work. We are ready to share, and we are also ready to learn,” Yassierli said.
