RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia received Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia, Faisal Abdullah Al Amudi, to discuss bilateral legal and immigration cooperation. The meeting took place in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

The discussion focused on easier visa services for citizens of both countries. It also covered legal mechanisms involving a Saudi citizen serving a life sentence in Indonesia.

The Saudi government proposed simpler visa services to support tourism, business, investment, and other travel purposes. Indonesia will forward the proposal to the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections for further review.

Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, said the Saudi ambassador presented two main issues during the meeting. The first concerned visa requirements for Saudi citizens visiting Indonesia.

"I was pleased to receive the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Indonesia, who conveyed two issues they are facing. The first concerns visas for Saudi Arabian citizens wishing to visit Indonesia, whether for tourism, socio-cultural visits, business visits, or other activities, which currently require applying for a visa from our government," he said.

The Saudi ambassador also requested legal consideration for a Saudi citizen serving a life sentence in Indonesia. According to Yusril, both governments discussed possible legal mechanisms available under Indonesian law.

"The Saudi government, through its embassy, requested whether the person concerned could be granted amnesty by the President. We also discussed several alternative solutions to address the matter, including whether amnesty or clemency could be proposed, or whether a prisoner transfer or repatriation mechanism could be pursued," he said.

The Minister stressed that every legal option must follow Indonesian law and applicable procedures. Indonesia and Saudi Arabia will continue coordinating through relevant authorities on both issues.
