RRI.CO.ID, Johor Bahru - Indonesia has provided protection to two Indonesian citizens allegedly abused by their employer in Johor, Malaysia. The Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru announced the assistance on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
The victims, identified by their initials YY and SH, are currently staying at the consulate's temporary shelter. They receive protection and further assistance from Indonesian authorities.
The case came to light after YY reported the alleged abuse through the KSATRIA hotline operated by the Indonesian Consulate General. She also informed officials that another Indonesian worker, SH, had experienced similar abuse.
According to the consulate, the victims worked as domestic workers alongside another Indonesian citizen identified as YA. They reportedly suffered repeated physical abuse while employed in Johor.
After receiving the report, the Indonesian Consulate General immediately coordinated with Malaysian police and filed a formal complaint. Malaysian authorities reportedly detained four individuals suspected of involvement in the alleged abuse case.
The consulate is coordinating with the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to assist YA, who is currently staying there. Indonesia will also facilitate police reports and provide legal assistance throughout the judicial process.
The victims entered Malaysia through non-procedural employment channels without valid work permits. Their passports were also allegedly withheld by their employer, preventing them from seeking help sooner.
The Indonesian Government urged citizens seeking overseas employment to use legal recruitment channels for stronger legal protection. The government said procedural placement also provides better labor protection for migrant workers.
The case is being coordinated by Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers. The Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru are also supporting the victims throughout the process.
