RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono underscored the importance of achieving concrete progress in the implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus (5PC) to support lasting peace and national reconciliation in Myanmar.

In a statement posted on X on Sunday, 12 July 2026, Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia’s position that inclusive dialogue remains essential to resolving the crisis in Myanmar.

The statement was issued following the Informal Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers on Myanmar held in Bangkok, Thailand., on Sunday, 12 July 2026. “I underscored that any durable solution must be Myanmar-owned and Myanmar-led,” Sugiono said.

He also reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to working with fellow ASEAN member states to promote a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region, including through efforts to address the crisis in Myanmar.

“Indonesia will continue working together with ASEAN member states for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region,” he reiterated.

The ASEAN Five-Point Consensus calls for an immediate cessation of violence, constructive dialogue involving all parties, mediation by the ASEAN Chair’s Special Envoy, the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and access for the Special Envoy to meet all parties concerned.

At the ASEAN Summit in May 2026, ASEAN leaders expressed deep concern over the continuing conflict and worsening humanitarian situation in Myanmar. They noted that progress in implementing the Five-Point Consensus remained very limited and reaffirmed that the plan continues to serve as the bloc’s primary framework for addressing the crisis.

Myanmar is currently governed by a military-backed administration formed following the country’s 2026 general election. Former military leader Min Aung Hlaing serves as president. The election, which was held only in limited areas and won by a military-backed party, drew criticism from the United Nations and human rights groups.

Myanmar’s new administration has sought to normalize relations with ASEAN, while the regional bloc continues to call for an end to violence, inclusive dialogue, and expanded humanitarian access across the country.
