RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Singapore signed 26 memoranda of understanding (MoU) across a wide range of sectors during Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Monday, July 6, 2026. Those, including pacts of investment, green energy, and defense, are signed as the two countries prepare to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.

The meeting at the Merdeka Palace was part of the annual Leaders' Retreat, where the two countries discussed priority issues of mutual interest. In a joint press statement, President Prabowo said those agreements reflected the broad scope of cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

"As we have witnessed today, this meeting has produced 26 tangible achievements across various sectors: 18 government-to-government agreements and eight business-to-business agreements. These achievements reflect the growing breadth and depth of our cooperation," he said.

Among the agreements signed were those covering cross-border electricity trade, digital infrastructure, carbon credits, defense cooperation, and green energy investment. Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund agency, Danantara Indonesia, also signed agreements with Singaporean companies such as Keppel and Sembcorp.

Prime Minister Wong said Singaporean companies are interested in investing in Indonesia, including in a solar power project in Morowali, Central Sulawesi. He said recent developments in the Middle East have reminded us of the importance of energy security and diversification.

"That's why we are jointly constructing one of Indonesia's largest solar projects in Morowali, in Central Sulawesi. This will unlock the clean supply of electricity to power industries there," he said.

Singapore is also interested in establishing a student exchange program with Indonesia's Garuda Schools, a government initiative to create boarding high schools that prepare talented students in science and technology. On the same occasion, Indonesia and Singapore are also guaranteed safe and open passage through the Strait of Malacca.

Last year, Prabowo was welcomed at the Singaporean Parliament House during his visit to Singapore. He was received by the country's President at the time, Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
