RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia underscored its commitment to improving international copyright royalty governance during a ministerial dialogue at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) General Assembly in Geneva on Monday, June 6, 2026.

Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas highlighted Indonesia’s proposal, first introduced in December 2025 at WIPO’s Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR), which centers on transparency, accountability, and interoperability.

“These principles strengthen the ecosystem and allow the digital economy to better serve the creative industries,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

Indonesia urged member states to broaden discussions beyond the music sector to include journalism and the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on attribution and remuneration.

The government also welcomed ongoing consultations at UNESCO on fair compensation for news, viewing them as complementary to WIPO’s copyright dialogue.

Minister Supratman stressed that the initiative reflects President Prabowo Subianto’s Astacita vision, which places the creative economy at the core of national independence.

To advance this agenda, Indonesia will host the Global Forum on Cross-Border Copyright Royalty Governance in Bali in October 2026, bringing together WIPO member countries.

Ahead of the ministerial session, Supratman met privately with WIPO Director General Daren Tang, who praised Indonesia’s initiative and encouraged continued engagement with WIPO’s 194 member states. Key points on royalty governance will be further discussed at the 49th SCCR session in December 2026.

The Ministry of Law emphasized that Indonesia’s presence in Geneva reflects its broader effort to strengthen creative economy diplomacy at the international level. ***
