RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The integration of unmanned systems has emerged as one of the most striking features of this year’s Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) 2026, according to Rear Admiral Suzanne Bailey, Commander of the Combined Exercise Control Group.

RIMPAC, the world’s largest international maritime warfare exercise led by the United States, runs from June 24 to July 31, 2026, involving around 25,000 personnel from 31 countries, including Indonesia.

Bailey, a C-130 pilot and RQ-4 Global Hawk mission commander, noted that unmanned systems are no longer just an enhancement but have become integral to naval operations.

“By integrating unmanned systems, we create more complex and unpredictable challenges for any adversary, strengthening our ability to deter aggression,” she said during a virtual press conference in Jakarta on Monday, July 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Bailey emphasized that the technology boosts capacity and resilience, expands operational options, and reshapes the dynamics of maritime warfare.

Indonesia’s Marine Corps has also played a distinctive role in RIMPAC 2026. Alongside international contingents, they participated in close-combat simulations and air assault operations.

Notably, Indonesian marines shared their expertise in jungle survival, teaching foreign troops how to identify edible plants and animals and adapt to forest environments.

“Our marines not only share their skills but also learn from others. This exchange of knowledge is vital for future joint operations,” said Commander of Indonesia’s Marine Task Force at RIMPAC, Lt. Col. Huda Prawira.

The training reflects Indonesia’s operational experience in forested and mountainous terrain, where survival skills are often critical. RIMPAC 2026 highlights how technological innovation and knowledge-sharing among allies are shaping the future of maritime security. ***
