Indonesia Represented by Ambassador at Ayatollah Khamenei’s Funeral

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian Government has expressed its appreciation to the Government of Iran for inviting Indonesia to attend the series of official ceremonies honoring the late Ayatollah Khamenei. Spokesperson Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang, said in an official statement that Indonesian Ambassador to Iran Rolliansyah Soemirat represented the Government of Indonesia at the funeral proceedings for Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“In this regard, the Government of Indonesia has informed the Government of Iran that Indonesia would be represented by the Indonesian Ambassador in Tehran,” Yvonne said in an official statement issued by the Foreign Ministry and received in Jakarta on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
According to her, on July 2, 2026, the Iranian Government informed all diplomatic missions in the country that the official memorial ceremony would be attended by senior officials of the central government. She added that the Iranian Government also expressed its appreciation for Indonesia’s decision to officially designate its Ambassador in Tehran as the country’s representative at the event.
“For your information, on the morning of July 4, Tehran time, the Indonesian Ambassador attended the memorial ceremony and prayer service for the late leader, whose body was lying in state at the Grand Mosalla in Tehran,” Yvonne said.
According to a report by Iran’s state news agency IRNA, the body of Ali Khamenei, along with those of several of his close associates, was transferred to the Grand Mosalla of Tehran on Friday morning, July 3, 2026, and placed in the mosque’s main hall ahead of a two-day public farewell ceremony.
The funeral ceremonies at the Grand Mosalla continued on Saturday and Sunday, July 5, 2026, with Khamenei’s body remaining there before the next stage of the funeral procession on Monday, July 6, 2026.
The funeral procession will then continue in the city of Qom, followed by separate ceremonies in Baghdad, Karbala, and Najaf in Iraq, before the final burial in Mashhad on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
