RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Anis Matta, has called for stronger economic relations between Indonesia and Kyrgyzstan by enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, and the creative industries during his working visit to Bishkek from July 1 to 3, 2026.
According to a statement issued by Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and received in Jakarta on Friday, July 3, 2026, Anis Matta held a series of meetings with Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zheenbek Kulubaev, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Meder Abakirov, Vice Minister of Economy and Commerce, Sultan Akhmatov, and Deputy Head of the National Investment Agency Koychumanov Nurbekovich.
During his meetings with the Kyrgyz foreign minister and deputy foreign minister, both sides discussed efforts to revitalize bilateral political relations through the intensification of bilateral consultation mechanisms and the Joint Commission on Economy and Trade Cooperation.
Anis Matta said that one of Indonesia's diplomatic priorities in the region is to optimize economic relations with countries across the Islamic world by fostering greater interaction between the people and business communities of both nations. In addition to strengthening political cooperation, he underscored the importance of expanding collaboration in culture and tourism to support increased trade, investment, and broader economic engagement.
In meetings with Kyrgyz economic officials, both sides agreed that governments play a vital role in creating a conducive environment for greater interaction between businesses and the public, including through the organization of business forums.
They also discussed measures to improve connectivity between the two countries, including easier visitor visa arrangements, exploring direct flight connectivity, and collaboration in the creative industry sector.
Both countries also expressed hope that bilateral and regional economic relations would be further strengthened through the implementation of the Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (Indonesia–EAEU FTA), which was signed in December 2025, once all member states, including Indonesia and Kyrgyzstan, complete their respective domestic ratification processes.
