Indonesia's Government Delivers Maluku Fishery Products to the Thailand Market

RRI.CO.ID, Ambon - The Indonesia's Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) facilitated the first export of fishery products from Maluku to the Thai market. The inaugural export of 11 tons of frozen tuna loin, valued at over IDR 1 billion (USD 55.7 million), took place at Yos Sudarso Port, Ambon, on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

The Head of the Fishery Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency, Ishartini, said the export aims to stimulate economic growth in Ambon. "This is a concrete step we, together with the local government, are taking to support economic growth by expanding our export destinations," Ishartini said.

Ishartini explained that the Maluku fishery products sent to Thailand are certified with quality certification recognized by Codex Alimentarius. Codex Alimentarius is a global organization that regulates and establishes food quality and safety standards.

The quality certification issued by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) guarantees that the exported fishery products are of good quality and safe for consumption. "The quality and safety of fishery products are key to product acceptance in export destination countries," he said.

The Head of the Maluku Province Industry and Trade Office, Ahmad Jais Ely, hopes that the first export will provide momentum for increased sales of Maluku fishery products abroad, which will impact the welfare of the region. "During the departure, certificates were submitted as mandatory documents for entry into the Thai market and to prove the quality of the fish," he said.

Previously, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, has emphasized on various occasions that quality assurance is key to product acceptance and is a crucial aspect in diversifying both products and export destinations. Through upstream and downstream Quality Assurance by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Indonesian fishery products will become champions in the global market.
