RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Belarus have agreed to boost cooperation in the health sector through the development of medical education, pharmaceuticals, and the exchange of experts as part of efforts to reinforce bilateral relations between the two countries.
As quoted by the official website of Indonesia's Ministry of Health on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the agreement will be followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC), which will be witnessed by the presidents of both countries at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Health, Dante Saksono Harbuwono, said the two countries agreed to focus their discussions on medical education and pharmaceutical cooperation.
"Every country has something to teach, and every healthcare system always has room for improvement. We agreed to discuss two main topics in depth during today's meeting, namely medical education and cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector," Dante said.
In the field of education, Indonesia is exploring a fellowship program focusing on cardiology, oncology, neurology and stroke, urology, nephrology, as well as maternal and child health. Dante explained that the Ministry of Health also plans to send a delegation to Belarus to study training programs there and invite Belarusian doctors to Indonesia to provide training for Indonesian medical personnel.
In addition, the two countries also discussed strengthening cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, including potential collaboration between Belarusian pharmaceutical company Belpharmprom and Indonesia's manufacturing industry to expand access to and distribution of medical devices.
"The Ministry of Health fully supports this development and will facilitate coordination with pharmaceutical companies from Belarus," he added.
Meanwhile, Belarusian Minister of Health, Aliaksandr Khajayeu, welcomed the proposed cooperation. According to him, the regulatory standards of the two countries, particularly for generic medicines, are already aligned, which could help accelerate the implementation of the partnership.
"Regarding the areas of cooperation, this has been a very productive meeting. Our standards, particularly for generic medicines, do not differ significantly. We are ready to welcome specialists directly to help expedite the process," the Belarusian health minister said.
As part of the high-level agreement, Indonesia and Belarus have also prepared the Operational Road Map 2026–2030 to support the implementation of various cooperation programs in a measurable manner and deliver benefits to the healthcare systems of both countries.
