RRI.CO.ID, Tripoli – Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Tripoli, is handling the case of an Indonesian migrant worker (PMI), identified by the initials AJ, in Benghazi, eastern Libya, after information concerning her circulated on social media on June 26, 2026. Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, said the Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli had confirmed that AJ is currently safe, in good health, and has not suffered any injuries.
“The Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli has confirmed that AJ is currently safe, in good health, and has not sustained any injuries,” Heni said in an official statement issued in Jakarta on Sunday night, June 28, 2026.
According to her, the Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli, together with the relevant parties, including AJ and her employer, is continuing to gather information to obtain a complete understanding of the chronology of the incident.
“Based on an investigation conducted with the assistance of a local agency, AJ has been working in Benghazi, eastern Libya, since March 2025 through a recruitment process that did not comply with official placement procedures and was arranged by a sponsor,” Heni said.
Heni said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli, would continue coordinating with the relevant parties and local authorities to handle the case and ensure AJ receives the necessary protection. The government also reiterated its appeal to Indonesians planning to work abroad to use official recruitment channels in accordance with applicable regulations to safeguard their rights and safety.
“We urge members of the public who plan to work overseas to follow official placement procedures in accordance with the prevailing regulations to ensure the protection of their rights and safety,” she said.
Earlier, a video circulated on social media showing AJ, an Indonesian migrant worker from Cianjur Regency, West Java, crying and pleading to be repatriated to Indonesia. In the video, she appeared to have a nosebleed and appealed to President Prabowo Subianto and West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi for assistance in returning home.
