RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing an energy transition that goes hand in hand with environmental protection and ecosystem preservation.

The pledge was delivered by Minister of Environment Moh Jumhur Hidayat at the Global Electrification and Transition Energy Summit (GETES) 2026 in London, England, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

“For Indonesia, future transformation must be carried out responsibly. We ensure that every development step prioritizes strict environmental standards in line with our national climate commitments,” Minister Jumhur said on Wednesday, June 24, as quoted by Antara.

Speaking at the High-Level Ministerial and CEO Dialogue on Tuesday, Minister Jumhur emphasized Indonesia’s unique role as one of the world’s largest megabiodiversity countries.

He highlighted the nation’s vast tropical forests, peatlands, and mangrove ecosystems as critical pillars in maintaining global climate balance.

Indonesia’s policy direction, he explained, seeks to harmonize economic growth, energy transition, and natural resource protection as the foundation of sustainable development.

This approach aligns with the call made by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who urged world leaders and energy executives to accelerate a fair and inclusive global energy transition that creates jobs and upholds human dignity.

Responding to that appeal, Minister Jumhur reiterated Indonesia’s readiness to implement integrated frameworks that place environmental preservation at the core.

“Our priority is to ensure that development policies remain firmly guided by strong environmental principles. This is the basis for consistency between economic growth and conservation targets,” he said.

The Indonesian delegation also used the summit as a strategic platform to encourage fair and transparent multilateral cooperation, reinforcing the country’s position as a key player in shaping global energy transition policies.

Through this stance, Indonesia is positioning itself as a leader in balancing energy transition with environmental protection, ensuring that sustainability remains central to its development agenda. ***
