RRI.CO.ID, Brisbane - Indonesia marked a new milestone in regional food security cooperation with the arrival of its first Government-to-Government (G-to-G) urea fertilizer shipment in Australia. A total of 47,500 tons of urea produced in Indonesia arrived at the Port of Brisbane on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.

The shipment is part of a bilateral agreement under which Indonesia will export 250,000 tons of urea fertilizer to Australia. The initiative aims to support food security and ensure a stable fertilizer supply across the Indo-Pacific region.

The cargo was transported by the vessel Mediluna, which departed from Bontang, East Kalimantan, one of Indonesia’s major fertilizer production hubs. The shipment was coordinated by PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), the country’s state-owned fertilizer holding company.

President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), Rahmad Pribadi, described the delivery as an important milestone in strengthening cooperation between the two countries. He said the project reflects a shared commitment to supporting agricultural productivity and food resilience.

“Today, we witnessed the docking of the Mediluna vessel carrying 47,500 tons of urea. The fertilizer was shipped directly from Bontang to this destination, and this is the first vessel operating under the G-to-G arrangement,” Rahmad said.

He noted that the shipment demonstrates Indonesia’s capability to meet international demand while maintaining its role as a reliable supplier of agricultural inputs. It also highlights the growing economic partnership between Indonesia and Australia in strategic sectors.

The agreement comes as many countries seek to secure fertilizer supplies amid global market uncertainties. Stable access to fertilizers is considered essential for maintaining agricultural output and protecting food systems.

PT Pupuk Indonesia stated that future shipments will be carried out in stages until the 250,000-ton target is reached. The company expects the program to strengthen regional cooperation and contribute to long-term food security in the Indo-Pacific.
