Prabowo and Frank-Walter Discuss Stronger Economic and Energy Cooperation

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation during a meeting in Jakarta on Monday, June 15, 2026. It includes in the fields of economy, investment, energy transition, energy security, education, and employment .

In a joint statement following the meeting, President Prabowo conveyed that President Steinmeier's visit to Indonesia was significant for bilateral relations and served as an important momentum amid growing global uncertainty.

"At today's meeting, we discussed strengthening the Indonesia-Germany partnership, particularly in the fields of economy, investment, energy transition, energy security, education, and employment. We agreed to continue increasing mutually beneficial trade and investment," Prabowo said.

He expressed hope that negotiations on the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) would soon reach a substantive conclusion. The President also hoped Germany would continue to play an active role in finalizing the agreement at the European level so that it could provide tangible benefits for businesses in both countries.

Prabowo said cooperation between Indonesia and Germany is also being carried out through the Competitiveness Industrial Modernization and Trade Acceleration (CITA) program.

Meanwhile, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, said both countries share a common desire to establish a strong framework for trade and economic relations. He noted that the IEU-CEPA negotiations have enormous potential, as the agreement would eliminate up to 90 percent of customs duties and create new investment opportunities. "With this agreement, up to 90 percent of customs duties will be eliminated. We in Germany also feel responsible for ensuring the agreement is ratified as soon as possible. This agreement holds tremendous potential," Frank said.

According to him, closer economic cooperation and innovation between German and Indonesian companies would benefit both countries. He also said Indonesia is not only an attractive market, but also an important destination for investment.

During the meeting, President Prabowo invited Germany to expand investment in several strategic sectors in Indonesia. The sectors including energy transition, downstream industrial development, electric vehicles, the semiconductor industry, critical minerals and rare earth supply chains, as well as infrastructure development.
