RRI.CO.ID, Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian authorities have detained a 37-year-old Indonesian woman as part of an investigation into the tragic fall of two children from the 12th floor of an apartment in Tampoi, Johor Bahru.
The incident, reported by residents on June 7, left one child dead at the scene and another critically injured, later treated at Hospital Sultanah Aminah.
The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Johor Bahru confirmed on Wednesday, June 10, that the woman, identified by the initial R, was taken into custody by North Johor Bahru police, .Antara reported.

Initial findings suggest the victims-- a seven-year-old girl and a nine-year-old boy--were her children with a Malaysian citizen. Both children hold Malaysian nationality, though under Indonesian law they would have qualified for limited dual citizenship, a status never formally processed by their parents.
Police reports indicate the detainee has no prior criminal record and tested negative for narcotics. However, she is known to have a history of mental health issues and is undergoing therapy.
Investigators have summoned several witnesses, while the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) continue to probe the motive and circumstances surrounding the case.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, covering allegations of abuse, neglect, abandonment, or exposure of children to harm.
The KJRI has requested consular access to ensure the detainee’s legal and consular rights are upheld.
In its statement, the KJRI emphasized that it will closely monitor developments and provide consular assistance as required.
The case underscores the complexities of child protection, cross-border family issues, and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals.
This incident ties into broader discussions on child protection laws in Malaysia, the role of consular assistance for Indonesian citizens abroad, and the challenges of dual citizenship in Indonesia. ***
