RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that, as of now, it has not received any reports of Indonesian citizens affected by the magnitude 7.7–7.8 tectonic earthquake that struck southern Mindanao, the Philippines, on Monday morning.
Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Heni Hamidah said the ministry, together with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Davao, continues to monitor developments following the earthquake, which occurred at 7:37 a.m. local time.
“So far, there has been no information indicating that any Indonesian citizens or Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) have been affected by the earthquake,” Heni said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located about 13 kilometers southwest of General Santos City, Sarangani, in southern Mindanao, the Philippines.
Heni said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Consulate General in Davao are continuing to coordinate with local authorities and monitor the situation on the ground to anticipate any potential impact on Indonesians in the affected areas.
She also urged Indonesian citizens and migrant workers in the Philippines to remain vigilant and follow updates and instructions issued by local authorities.
“We urge all Indonesian citizens and migrant workers to continue monitoring developments regarding the situation,” Heni said.
In addition to the Philippines, Indonesia’s representatives in Sabah, Malaysia, are also monitoring the situation following advisories issued by the Sabah state government regarding the earthquake’s impact.
As a precautionary measure, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian missions abroad have opened emergency hotline services for Indonesians who may require assistance or further information.
