RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), builds up international collaboration in research and innovation to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The effort includes expanding access to national research infrastructure and developing partnership schemes open to global partners.

According to BRIN's official website, the initiative was highlighted during the BRIN–United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Working Session: Identifying Priority Areas for Collaboration to Accelerate SDGs Implementation held in Jakarta on June 3, 2026.

During the meeting, BRIN and the UNDP explored opportunities to leverage research and innovation capacities to support development programs, strengthen partnerships, mobilize financing, and expand development impacts at both national and regional levels.

Head of the External Partnerships Team at BRIN's Directorate for Laboratory Management, Research Facilities, and Science and Technology Areas, Adityo Wicaksono, said BRIN serves as a connector that brings together various stakeholders within the innovation ecosystem.

"The research and innovation ecosystem we have built is inclusive and can be utilized by academics, industry players, and the wider community," he said.

BRIN currently manages around 50 sites out of its total 84 research and innovation areas. These include Science and Technology Parks (STPs), science areas, scientific conservation areas, field stations, and external partnership zones supported by various research and innovation facilities.

According to him, these facilities are available through a range of partnership models tailored to partners' needs, including research and development cooperation, industry facilitation, asset utilization, non-tax state revenue (PNBP)-based services, leasing and tenancy schemes, event hosting, build-operate-transfer arrangements, and lending mechanisms.

He explained that the approach is designed to accelerate the downstream commercialization of research results by enabling industries to utilize BRIN's facilities after intellectual property licensing has been completed.

"Once intellectual property licensing is in place, industries can utilize our infrastructure for technology development and commercialization," he said.

BRIN also offers opportunities for international development organizations and partners, including UNDP, to access laboratories, testing facilities, and research areas for collaborative programs based on science, technology, and innovation to support sustainable development initiatives.

"We are very open to collaborating with UNDP and other partners in utilizing the infrastructure we have," Adityo said.
