RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The foreign ministers of Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the continued incursions by extremist Israeli settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif compound in occupied East Jerusalem under the protection of Israeli forces. In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the eight foreign ministers also condemned the raising of the Israeli flag within the courtyards of the holy site, describing it as a provocative and unacceptable act.

They stressed that such actions constitute a blatant violation of international law, relevant United Nations resolutions, and the historical and legal status quo at the holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem.

“They stress that these provocative and unacceptable actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law, the relevant United Nations resolutions, and the historical and legal status quo at the holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem,” the joint statement said.

The foreign ministers also condemned what they described as violations and systematic measures undertaken by Israel, as the occupying power, aimed at altering the historical, legal, and demographic character of East Jerusalem and undermining the sanctity and status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city. They reaffirmed their rejection of any attempts to change the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites.

They further emphasized the importance of preserving this status quo and recognizing the special custodial role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan over the holy sites. The ministers reiterated that the entire 144-dunam area of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif is a place of worship exclusively designated for Muslims.

They also stated that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs, affiliated with Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is the sole authority with exclusive jurisdiction over the administration of the site and the regulation of access thereto.

“Affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is the legal entity with exclusive jurisdiction to administer the affairs of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif and to regulate entry thereto,” the statement said.

Furthermore, the ministers held Israeli authorities responsible for preventing actions that could further escalate tensions. They warned that repeated violations by Israel exacerbate tensions, fuel instability and extremism, and undermine international efforts to achieve peace.

The ministers called for the immediate cessation of all actions they described as illegal and provocative, while reaffirming the need to fully respect the historical and legal status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif compound.

In the joint statement, the eight countries also expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people and reaffirmed their support for the legitimate national rights of the Palestinians, including their right to self-determination.

They further reiterated their support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. They also backed efforts to end the Israeli occupation and achieve a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace through the two-state solution, in accordance with international law, United Nations resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative.
