Indonesia-Russia Agrees to Establish Three Maritime Working Groups

RRI.CO.ID, Moscow - Indonesia and Russia have agreed to establish three permanent working groups to strengthen cooperation in the maritime sector, covering shipbuilding, fisheries, research, and human resource development. The agreement was reached during Indonesia-Russia consultations on maritime cooperation held on June 1, 2026.

The meeting was co-chaired by Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Maritime Board of the Russian Federation Nikolai P. Patrushev, and Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Affairs Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.

According to a statement from the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Indonesia on Tuesday,June 2, 2026, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation in maritime logistics, shipbuilding, personnel training, and research on marine bioresources. They also reviewed a number of concrete proposals aimed at implementing previously reached agreements.

Russian companies expressed interest in establishing joint shipbuilding ventures and marine component manufacturing facilities in Indonesia. Cooperation will also focus on the design and construction of vessels tailored to the specific conditions of Indonesian waters.

In addition, Russia offered advanced global technologies in green shipbuilding, energy efficiency, and the use of alternative fuels. In the fisheries sector, Russian companies expressed their readiness to support the sustainable development of aquaculture through environmentally friendly technologies, capacity-building initiatives, and the introduction of digital innovations into supply chains.

As a follow-up, the two countries agreed to establish three permanent working groups. The first group will focus on shipbuilding, port modernization, and the utilization of new logistics routes. The second group will address the sustainable development of marine and fisheries resources, while the third group will concentrate on joint scientific research and personnel training.

The cooperation is expected to strengthen the Indonesia-Russia maritime partnership while supporting the sustainable development of the maritime economy in both countries.
