Indonesia-Tajikistan Promotes More Concrete Cooperation

RRI.CO.ID, Dushanbe – Indonesia and Tajikistan agreed to expand their partnership and expand bilateral cooperation in various priority sectors during the Indonesia-Tajikistan bilateral consultation meeting held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The meeting was co-chaired by Indonesian Vice Foreign Minister, Arrmanatha Nasir and Tajikistan Vice Foreign Minister, Idibek Kalandar on May 27, 2026.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to promoting more concrete cooperation that would bring benefits to the people of both countries, including through the preparation of a bilateral cooperation roadmap as a guide for strengthening long-term relations.
Indonesian Vice Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir said Indonesia views Tajikistan as an important partner in strengthening connectivity and interregional cooperation between ASEAN and Central Asia.
“Indonesia views Tajikistan as an important partner in strengthening connectivity and interregional cooperation between ASEAN and Central Asia, amid growing geopolitical dynamics and the need for more inclusive global collaboration,” Arrmanatha said in a written statement from the Foreign Ministry received in Jakarta on Friday, May 29, 2026.
Indonesia also encouraged stronger cooperation between ASEAN and Central Asia, including greater engagement between Tajikistan and ASEAN through the possibility of joining the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) and opening an embassy as well as a Permanent Mission to ASEAN in Jakarta.
In addition, the two countries discussed opportunities for cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, education, downstream industries, and digital transformation to support sustainable development.
In the socio-cultural sector, Indonesia and Tajikistan agreed to strengthen people-to-people relations through tourism, educational cooperation, and cultural exchanges.
As a result of the meeting, the two deputy foreign ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Establishment of a Bilateral Consultation Committee, which will serve as the foundation for strengthening future bilateral consultations between the two countries.
Both sides also exchanged views on geopolitical and regional developments and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting each other in various international forums.
Following the meeting, the Indonesian delegation visited the Dangara Free Economic Zone to explore opportunities for trade and investment cooperation in Tajikistan.
The Foreign Ministry stated that the visit reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to expanding strategic partnerships with Central Asian countries and strengthening Indonesia’s role as a bridge for inclusive and future-oriented interregional cooperation.
