RRI.CO.ID, Mecca - As millions of Muslims, including more than 200,000 Indonesians, are currently undertaking the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, Indonesian pilgrims will pass through two tunnels leading to the Jamarat during the stoning of the devil ritual. This route is prioritized for pilgrims on the third floor of Mina.

The Jamarat complex in Mina is where pilgrims perform the stoning of the devil, one of the central Hajj rituals carried out during the month of Zulhijjah.

Coordinator of the Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina Operations Unit (Azmurna) for the Indonesian Hajj Pilgrimage Officials (PPIH) in Saudi Arabia, Harun Arrasyid Usman, explained that the route is one‑way to maintain security and prevent clashes between pilgrims.

“We urge pilgrims to ask officers for directions back to the tents. The return route loops back to the Muaisim Tunnel via the exit,” Harun said in Mina on Friday, May 22, 2026.

Since Sunday, May 17, 2026, route checks have been carried out directly by PPIH officers. The route begins from the nearest tent in Zone 3 and leads toward the Jamarat area.

The two Mina tunnels are equipped with escalators and health facilities along the pilgrimage route. Outbound and return routes are separated to prevent cross‑flow of people.

Officers on site direct pilgrims to their destinations after completing the stoning ritual. Those performing tanazul (early completion) are guided to their hotels, while others return to their Mina tents.

Pilgrims are also advised not to panic if tunnel lights suddenly go out during their journey. Officers will ask them to pull over temporarily to maintain controlled and safe traffic.

Most Indonesian pilgrims are located in Zones 3 and 5, near the Muaisim Tunnel. The area is divided into 61 bases to facilitate movement.

Based on field experience, the round‑trip distance to Jamarat is approximately 4.5 kilometers, not including the walk from the tunnel entrance to the pilgrims’ tents. (Misni Parjiati)
