RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The release of international humanitarian activists detained by Israel has begun, with nine Indonesian citizens confirmed among those repatriated via diplomatic channels to Türkiye.
Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI) announced that all volunteers affiliated with the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 and the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) have been freed. The update was received from the Adalah Legal Center’s legal team, which has been monitoring the activists’ conditions.
“Alhamdulillah (thank God), our brothers and sisters are on the list provided by the occupiers to the team, and their names are among those set to board the plane,” said GPCI Steering Committee member Maimon Herawati in a press statement received in Jakarta on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
Maimon noted that the release was inseparable from international solidarity pressure on Israel. A total of 428 Global Peace Convoy activists were reported to have been freed in stages.
Foreign Minister Sugiono also confirmed that nine Indonesians had been released from Israeli military detention. “They are currently on their way out of Israeli territory to Istanbul, Türkiye, for the repatriation process,” he said.
The volunteers were flown out via Umm Al Rashrash Airport, also known as Eilat/Ramon Airport, on a special Turkish Airlines flight chartered by the Turkish government. Monitoring teams reported that the Global Sumud Flotilla delegation departed on three flights: TK 6919, TK 6921, and TK 6925.
The Adalah Legal Center’s legal team continues to oversee the transit and deportation process to ensure repatriation proceeds safely. The situation on the ground remains dynamic, with developments subject to change.
GPCI activist and Dompet Dhuafa Strategic Alliance Manager Syamsul Ardiansyah said all participants underwent examinations by Israeli authorities before being transferred to the airport for deportation.
“Next, we will welcome the humanitarian volunteers who are currently undergoing health checks in Türkiye. The examinations are being conducted to treat injuries sustained during their detention by the Israeli military,” Syamsul said.
The Global Sumud Flotilla Mission is part of an international solidarity movement delivering humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza. Activists from various countries joined the voyage to show support for the civilian population. (Gusti Panji)
