RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, said that nine Indonesian citizens (WNI) who joined the humanitarian mission Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 and were previously detained by the Israeli military had safely arrived in Istanbul, Türkiye, on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Sugiono stated that the Indonesian government continues to coordinate with relevant parties to ensure the smooth and safe repatriation of all Indonesian citizens back to the homeland.
“The Government of Indonesia is currently continuing coordination with relevant parties to ensure that the repatriation process for all Indonesian citizens proceeds smoothly so that they can return safely and as soon as possible,” Sugiono wrote in an official statement posted on social media platform X @Menlu_RI on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
The Indonesian government also strongly condemned the acts of torture allegedly carried out by Israel against the Indonesian citizens during their detention. “Indonesia strongly condemns the acts of torture carried out by Israel against Indonesian citizens during their detention,” He said.
He also stressed that all inhumane actions committed by the Israeli military against the Global Sumud Flotilla volunteers constituted violations of international law and contradicted humanitarian principles.
The Minister also expressed appreciation to all parties in Indonesia as well as international partners who assisted in securing the release of the Indonesian citizens. He also conveyed special thanks to the Government of Türkiye.
In addition, it was announced that the Indonesian citizens would undergo medical examinations in Istanbul before returning to Indonesia.
All GSF volunteers from various countries have reportedly been released from Israeli prisons after their vessels were intercepted by Zionist forces earlier this week. They are currently undergoing deportation procedures and repatriation out of Israeli territory to Türkiye.
