RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - State-run Islamic senior high school MAN Insan Cendekia Ogan Komering Ilir (MAN IC OKI) has emerged as one of the standout participants after sweeping seven awards at the 2026 World Young Inventors Exhibition (WYIE) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

MAN IC OKI secured three gold medals, two silver medals, and two special awards during the competition held from May 18-20, 2026. The event, part of the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2026, featured more than 1,000 participants from 17 countries and regions.

“This edition marks a significant milestone as the largest ITEX to date, featuring over 1,000 inventions from 17 countries and regions, with 70 percent ready to be commercialized,” Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS) President Datuk Augustine said during the event, as quoted on the Indonesian Religious Affairs Ministry official website.

All five teams sent by MAN IC OKI returned with medals after presenting their research and innovation projects before an international panel of judges. One of the school’s most notable achievements came from Team Aeropulse, which won a gold medal along with special awards from Hong Kong and Thailand.

The team developed a wearable medical sleeve capable of detecting air quality, temperature, and humidity in real time while providing an early warning system for asthma sufferers.

The project was created by tenth-grade students M. Arif Darmawan, Khairul Daffa, Alya Hayfa, Ciyanda Yusra Siti Aisyah, and Zaenab Azka Savarli.

Indonesia sent more than 120 teams from elementary schools to universities, including delegations from Bandung Institute of Technology, Diponegoro University, Airlangga University, and PLN Institute of Technology.

MAN IC OKI Principal Komariah Hawa said the achievement reflected the school’s long-term commitment to developing a strong culture of research and innovation.

“This is an extraordinary achievement, the result of the hard work of students and supervising teachers who continue to innovate while strengthening the school’s presence at the international level,” she said, on Thursday, May 21.

The 2026 edition marked the second consecutive year that MAN IC OKI has won medals at the WYIE Malaysia competition.

Other gold medal-winning projects included MINU (Mobile Intelligent Nutrient Unit) in the Automation and Processes category and ORION, an artificial intelligence-based biosensor using banana peels and eggshell membranes to detect water contamination, in the Environment category.

The school also earned two silver medals in the Biotechnology and Health category through projects focused on valerian root effervescent tablets for sleep and stress support, as well as functional food bars designed to boost immunity and heart health.

By winning medals across all five teams it sent, MAN IC OKI strengthened its reputation as one of Indonesia’s leading student research institutions capable of competing on the global stage. ***
