RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, reaffirmed the government’s full support for Indonesia’s delegation participating in the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in France. The support was conveyed during the Ministry of Culture’s working visit to Cannes Thursday on May 14, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy through film.
According to the minister, Indonesia’s presence at the Cannes Film Festival reflects growing international recognition of the country’s film industry. He said Indonesian filmmakers are increasingly capable of building global collaborations and competing in the international film industry.
“The Ministry of Culture is committed to strengthening Indonesia’s film ecosystem so that it becomes more competitive, inclusive, and able to play an important role in the global film industry,” Fadli Zon said. He added that the government continues to expand programs aimed at developing the national film sector.
One of the key initiatives being strengthened is the National Talent Management program in the film sector. The program is designed to support the development of young filmmakers, expand international networks, and open access to collaboration and financing opportunities for Indonesia’s film industry.
In addition, the Ministry of Culture is continuing to strengthen international promotion and expand film industry networks. The government is also encouraging the development of film human resources and reinforcing film ecosystems across various regions in Indonesia.
“We want to ensure that Indonesian film talents have room to grow, opportunities to build networks, and access to perform on the international stage,” Fadli Zon said. He stressed that cinema is one of Indonesia’s key instruments of cultural diplomacy at the global level.
Indonesia’s participation in the 2026 Cannes Film Festival is represented through several prestigious programs. In the Semaine de la Critique program, Indonesia is represented by four short films involving filmmakers such as Reza Rahadian, Khozy Rizal, Shelby Kho, and Reza Fahri together with production house KawanKawan Media.
In addition, Indonesian filmmaker Kamila Andini received recognition at the Women in Cinema Gala organized by the Red Sea Foundation. During the visit, Fadli Zon also met with Guillaume Esmiol to discuss Indonesia’s preparation as Guest of Honor at the 2028 Cannes Film Festival, expressing hope that the momentum would strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global film industry.
