At BRICS, Sugiono Pushes for Palestinian Independence and Highlights UNIFIL

RRI.CO.ID, New Delhi — Indonesia Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, called on BRICS countries to unite in supporting Palestine and realizing the Two-State Solution in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. The call was delivered during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, India, on Thursday, May 14, 2026, where ministers discussed various global issues ranging from geopolitical tensions and security challenges to the future of global governance.
“I called BRICS to stand together in supporting Palestine and the realization of the Two-State Solution, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions,” Sugiono said during the meeting.
During the meeting, Sugiono also emphasized the crucial role of peacekeepers in conflict areas and called for accountability over the deaths of Indonesian peacekeepers serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
“The security & safety of UN peacekeepers are non-negotiable,” he added.
According to him, BRICS, as a representative of the Global South, must become an active and decisive force in maintaining global peace and stability. He also said the group should be part of the solution to various global challenges currently facing the international community.
“BRICS must act as an active and decisive force in maintaining global peace and stability,” Sugiono said.
Sugiono’s attendance at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) reflects Indonesia’s active participation as BRICS’ newest member. The meeting also serves as a platform to strengthen collaboration in several strategic sectors.
Foreign ministers attending the meeting included Brazil Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira, Russia Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, South Africa Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, Iran Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi, Malaysia Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, and Thailand Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow.
