RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – ASEAN Secretary-General, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, officially announced the key outcomes of the 48th ASEAN Summit, which recently took place in Cebu, Philippines. During a post briefing in Jakarta, Monday, May 11, 2026, he detailed the key points agreed upon by the leaders of Southeast Asian nations.
ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn highlighted the key outcomes of the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings. He stated that at least 18 key outcome documents were recorded.
“I want to share with you, there were 18 key outcome documents that were adopted and noted by the ASEAN leaders during the 48th ASEAN Summit. And some of these documents I will be elaborating later on,” Kao stated.
Kao emphasized that the 48th ASEAN Summit prioritized three essential goals for the region's future. The discussions focused on strengthening energy and food security while ensuring the continued safety of all ASEAN citizens.
The Secretary-General explained, “It is in this context that ASEAN leaders focus their main discussions during the Summit planning session on the three main priorities. First, on ensuring regional energy security and resilience. Second, on stabilizing food security. And third, on the safety of the ASEAN nationals.”
Relating to energy, the leaders emphasized the importance of cross-border electricity interconnections and transitioning to renewable energy to reduce dependence on resources. Additionally, ASEAN agreed to strengthen food supply chains and accelerate trade ratification to ensure the smooth flow of commodities.
As an effort to support MSMEs affected by the global crisis, ASEAN is also facilitating access to financing and the provision of digital tools. “These measures would include favorable access to finance, digital tools, and capacity building initiatives that would ensure their continued participation in increasing global value chains,” he affirmed.
