RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, stressed that the state will always be present to ensure the safety of Indonesian peacekeeping personnel amid the increasingly complex regional security situation. He made the statement while attending a Coordination Meeting of the Peacekeeping Mission Coordination Team (TKMPP) on Sunday, May 11, 2026.

“I emphasize that the state will always be present to ensure the safety of Indonesian peacekeepers,” Sugiono said in an official statement posted on Foreign Minister Sugiono’s X social media account on Monday.

The minister also stated that Indonesia, as one of the largest contributors to United Nations peacekeeping missions, continues to carry out its constitutional mandate and free-and-active foreign policy through the deployment of the Garuda Contingent Task Force to Lebanon.

“As one of the largest contributors to UN Peacekeeping Missions, the deployment of the Garuda Contingent Task Force to UNIFIL (Lebanon) represents the implementation of the constitutional mandate and Indonesia’s free-and-active foreign policy in realizing world peace,” he said.

Sugiono reminded the troops that although they serve as peacekeepers, the operational area they will face is far from completely safe and peaceful. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism and safety while carrying out peacekeeping duties in the conflict area.

“It is a source of pride for me to meet all of you today, and it would be an even greater pride for me to welcome you back to the homeland in good health and safe condition,” he said.

Indonesia will once again deploy 742 Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel to Lebanon as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The Garuda Contingent Task Force is scheduled to depart on May 22 to replace the Indonesian troops currently stationed in the area.
