RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Thailand reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties as President Prabowo Subianto hosted Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, August 3, 2026.

The visit marked the first official trip by a Thai head of government to Indonesia in 15 years, underscoring its historic significance.

PM Anutin arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base before proceeding to Merdeka Palace under full ceremonial escort by the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres), including mounted guards.

President Prabowo greeted him at the palace courtyard, where the two leaders attended an official welcoming ceremony and introduced their respective delegations.

Indonesia’s delegation included senior ministers and officials such as Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman.

The leaders first held a one‑on‑one meeting, followed by a broader bilateral session. They witnessed the signing of several cooperation documents and later delivered a joint press statement. The day concluded with a state dinner hosted by President Prabowo in honor of the Thai prime minister and his delegation.

In his remarks, President Prabowo emphasized the need for more frequent coordination between the two countries, noting that close ties should not lead to complacency. He highlighted the importance of future‑oriented cooperation that delivers tangible benefits for both nations.

“If Thailand and Indonesia work closely together, it can contribute to a stronger and more stable ASEAN,” President Prabowo said, as quoted by Antara.

The President proposed expanding defense and security cooperation through joint training and officer exchanges, while also encouraging deeper collaboration in trade, investment, food security, energy, digital technology, and people‑to‑people relations.

He extended condolences to the Thai royal family on the passing of Princess Bajrakitiyabha and conveyed birthday greetings to King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

The president also recalled his long‑standing personal ties with Thailand and its monarch, noting their shared background as military officers in their youth.
