President Prabowo Attends the 48th ASEAN Summit

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto departed for the Philippines to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit on Thursday, May 7, 2026. Prabowo and his delegation departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta at approximately 9:10 a.m. local time.
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Muhammad Herindra accompanied Prabowo at the air base, as quoted from Indonesian Presidential Secretariat.
The 48th ASEAN Summit will take place in Cebu on May 7-8, 2026, and Prabowo is scheduled to attend the Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia–Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit upon arrival. It serves as a strategic forum to strengthen connectivity and economic cooperation within the ASEAN subregion.
During the visit, the Head of State's mission was to boost cooperation among ASEAN countries, including efforts to address evolving global dynamics. Several issues of concern included global developments that impact the region, including efforts to maintain energy security and foster coordination in responding to geopolitical dynamics.
The meeting of ASEAN leaders at the forum is also expected to strengthen further regional solidarity in maintaining stability. It is also expected to encourage inclusive and sustainable economic growth and strengthen strategic cooperation in various fields.
President Prabowo on this visit were accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Earlier, the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, departed for the Philippines to attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting. He urged closer ASEAN cooperation to respond to the impact of the conflict in the Middle East and various current challenges across the region.
