RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The United Nations has once again condemned attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure amid the escalating conflict in several regions of the world, including Ukraine, Sudan, Gaza, and Lebanon.

In the daily press conference held on Monday, May 4, 2026, UN Secretary-General's Spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, affirmed that attacks on civilians cannot be justified under any circumstances, regardless of the location of the conflict.

“Once again, the Secretary-General condemns all attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, no matter where they occur,” Dujarric said.

He added that the UN Secretary-General reiterated the call for a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire as an urgent step to stop the violence and pave the way for sustainable peace.

“He reiterates his call for a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire, leading to a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace in line with the UN Charter, international law, and relevant UN resolutions,” he stated.

The statement was made following the latest reports on the increasing civilian casualties due to missile and drone attacks in several conflict areas.

The UN reported that in the last three days, the ongoing attacks in Ukraine have caused nearly 250 civilian casualties, including more than 20 deaths. The attacks have also been reported to hit humanitarian vehicles and damage civilian infrastructure in several affected areas.

In addition, more than 900 civilians, including at least 180 children, were evacuated from the frontline areas in the Donetsk region over the weekend with the support of humanitarian partners and local authorities.

In Sudan, a wave of drone attacks in recent days has also been reported to kill and injure civilians in several states, while disrupting humanitarian operations on the ground.

The UN emphasizes that respect for international humanitarian law is a primary condition for protecting civilians and preventing the worsening of humanitarian crises in various conflict areas.
