RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is strengthening migrant worker protection through a cross-ministry “Safe Migrant” program, with legal aid posts supported by the Ministry of Migrant Workers Protection (P2MI), Ministry of Law, and Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA).
“We are finalizing plans to establish a cooperation agreement between the three ministries as a concrete step to strengthen Indonesian migrant workers protection,” Deputy P2MI Minister Christina Aryani said in a statement, as quotedby Antara.
Deputy Minister Christina made the statment following a meeting with Deputy Minister of Law Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej and Deputy PPPA Minister Veronica Tan.
Through the collaboration, the Indonesian government aims to expand education on preventing sexual violence, human trafficking, and gender-based issues by training law enforcement officials, stakeholders, and instructors, who will then extend outreach to grassroots communities.
She said that, in the future, all paralegals across 80,298 legal aid posts at village and subdistrict levels are expected to have a strong understanding of these issues within the “Safe Migrant” framework.
The Ministry will also integrate “Safe Migrant” materials to educate the public on how to become migrant workers who are safe, protected, and free from legal problems from pre-departure to their return to Indonesia.
“We are targeting the signing of the cooperartion agreement on May 18, 2026, followed by a nationwide program launch to coincide with National Children’s Day,” she said. ***
