RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia is intensifying efforts to expand global food exports by targeting North America, using international exhibitions to promote high‑value products and strengthen trade ties with Canada. The country showcased flagship products at Salon International de l’Alimentation (SIAL) Canada 2026 in Montreal.

According to the Indonesian Embassy in Ottawa, the exhibition, held from April 29 to May 1, 2026, featured more than 800 exhibitors from various countries and attracted over 21,000 professional visitors.

Indonesia’s Ambassador to Canada, Muhsin Syihab, said the participation reflects Indonesia’s strength in delivering high‑quality, value‑added food products to the global market.

“Indonesia presents selected companies offering high‑quality products, ranging from coffee and cocoa to processed foods, spices, and fisheries products, highlighting the country’s rich resources and innovative food production,” Muhsin said on Monday, May 4, as quoted by Antara.

He added that Canada represents a promising and modern market, where consumers increasingly demand high‑quality, sustainable, and innovative products.

The Indonesian Pavilion featured coffee, cocoa, coconut derivatives, processed foods, spices and herbs, gluten‑free cassava‑based products, and fisheries products, showcased by 10 Indonesian companies.

“Indonesian products, from specialty coffee and natural spices to fisheries and processed foods, are well-positioned to meet these evolving preferences,” Muhsin said.

The embassy noted a sharp rise in Indonesia’s exports of processed food and beverages (HS 16–22) to Canada between 2023 and 2025. Export value more than doubled, from USD 56.4 million in 2023 to USD 116.6 million in 2025, driven by cocoa products, processed fruits and vegetables, and other food preparations.

Trade Attaché Mahdewi Silky said the strong export performance indicates significant room for further expansion. With the planned implementation of the Indonesia‑Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement later this year, along with ongoing ASEAN‑Canada Free Trade Agreement negotiations, Indonesia aims to broaden market access and strengthen trade relations with Canada.

“We are optimistic this momentum will further enhance trade and investment ties while boosting Indonesia’s exports to Canada,” she said. ***
