RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the country will continue to call for addressing the threat of nuclear weapons at the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT Review Conference/RevCon).

Spokesperson Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang, said that the threat of nuclear weapons is becoming increasingly real for the international community and therefore requires serious attention. “We will continue to call for the importance of addressing the increasingly real threat of nuclear weapons to the world,” Yvonne said during a press briefing in Jakarta on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

She emphasized that Indonesia will continue to convey that the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) remains relevant and irreplaceable, and that all countries must fully implement their obligations under the treaty, particularly in terms of nuclear disarmament.

According to her, all Permanent Missions of the Republic of Indonesia (PTRI) in New York, Geneva, and Vienna will attend the conference as part of the Indonesian delegation. She added that Indonesia plays an important role as the coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) for the nuclear disarmament working group, representing the aspirations of 120 member states to promote the realization of a world free of nuclear weapons.

The 11th NPT Review Conference is being held from April 27 to May 22, 2026, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States.

The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) is an international agreement aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons, promoting the peaceful use of nuclear technology, and advancing nuclear disarmament.

Signed in 1968 and entering into force in 1970, the treaty has three main pillars: non-proliferation, disarmament, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy by member states.
