One Indonesian Pilgrim Hospitalized After Bus Accident in Medina

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - One Indonesian Hajj pilgrim remains hospitalized following a bus accident in Medina, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, according to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
Head of the ministry's Public Relations, Moh. Hasan Afandi, said the pilgrim, identified as Sri Sugi Hartini, 60, from Flight Group SUB‑2, is being treated at Al‑Hayyat Hospital in Medina.
The accident, which occurred at 10:30 a.m. local time in the Jabal Magnet area, left 10 people injured. Seven were pilgrims from Flight Group JKS‑01 (Jakarta–Bekasi embarkation), two were from Flight Group SUB‑02 (Surabaya embarkation), and one was a staff member from the Hajj and Umrah Guidance Group (KBIHU) Nurul Haramain, Probolinggo, East Java.
Hasan said the collision happened when the bus carrying pilgrims from SUB‑02, operated by KBIHU Nurul Haramain, struck the side of the JKS‑01 bus. The front of the SUB‑02 bus sustained severe damage.
The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed the incident has been properly handled. Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection at the ministry, Heni Hamidah, said the accident occurred as pilgrims were returning from a city tour in Jabal Magnet.
“There were no fatalities. The Consulate General in Jeddah is managing the case and ensuring all affected pilgrims receive proper care and support,” Heni stated.
She emphasized that the Consulate continues to monitor the victims’ condition and coordinate with Saudi authorities, travel organizers, and other stakeholders to guarantee assistance.
Meanwhile, Head of the Surabaya Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH), Asadul Anam, suggested the driver may have lost control when another vehicle suddenly appeared, making the collision unavoidable.
