RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Sukamta, expressed his condolences for the death of Private Rico Pramudia, a top Indonesian Military (TNI) soldier serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). His death adds to the number of TNI personnel who have died in UN peacekeeping missions.

"We express our deepest condolences for the loss of (one of) the best TNI soldiers who were part of the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon," Sukamta stated in a written statement, as published by the House on Sunday, 26 April 2026.

"This sacrifice is a concrete manifestation of Indonesia's commitment to maintaining world peace, as mandated by the constitution," he said.

Private First Class Rico died after undergoing treatment in Lebanon for serious injuries sustained in a missile attack on a UNIFIL base on Wednesday, 29 March 2026. The attack on the UNIFIL base near Adshit Al-Qusayr in southern Lebanon occurred amid heightened tensions between the Israeli military and Hezbollah.

At that time, the attack, suspected to be from the Israeli military, also resulted in the death of Private Farizal Rhomadhon. Two other TNI members were also injured: Private Bayu Prakoso and Private Arif Kurniawan.

A day later, the United Nations (UN) confirmed the deaths of two more TNI soldiers after an explosion hit a UNIFIL logistics convoy. They were Captain Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ikhwan.

The incident, which occurred near Bani Hayyan, South Lebanon, also injured two others. With the death of Private Rico, a total of four TNI personnel have died while on UN peacekeeping missions in Lebanon.

Sukamta, the Deputy Chairman of the House's Commission I, stated that the death of Praka Rico must be a serious concern for all parties. His concern is especially because the UNIFIL headquarters was used as a point of attack by the conflicting parties.

"This incident should be a serious concern for all parties. The attack that occurred in the UNIFIL operational area shows that the situation on the ground has significantly escalated, placing peacekeeping forces at increased risk," explained the PKS Faction politician.

Sukamta also emphasized that protection for personnel carrying out UN peacekeeping missions must not be ignored, including by conflicting parties. He believes that protecting UN personnel must be a top priority and must not be ignored by any party, including in the dynamics of conflict involving Israel and other actors in the region.

He also urged the UN to conduct a comprehensive evaluation. Specifically, Sukamta said, an evaluation of the UNIFIL peacekeeping force protection mechanism should ensure it reflects the reality of threats on the ground.

"We urge the United Nations to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of UNIFIL's mandate and troop protection mechanisms to ensure they reflect the evolving threat realities on the ground," the legislator said.

"Furthermore, a transparent and accountable investigation into this incident is needed to ensure clarity and accountability," Sukamta conveyed.

He reminded that world peace should not be paid for with unnecessary sacrifices, including those from soldiers on duty. He said that every dead soldier should serve as a reminder that efforts to maintain peace require a strong system, adequate protection, and a shared commitment from the international community.

"May the dead soldiers find comfort in the presence of Almighty God, and may the families they leave behind be granted fortitude," he said.
