RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is taking a significant step toward advancing cancer diagnostics through an international partnership. The Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital (RSCM) in Jakarta has joined forces with South Korea’s SCL Group to develop modern, technology-driven diagnostic services, with a flagship innovation in early cancer detection known as Cancer Find.

This liquid biopsy method allows doctors to identify potential cancer risks from a simple blood sample -- often before any clinical symptoms appear. RSCM President Director Supriyanto Dharmoredjo explained that the collaboration includes intensive training from SCL Group, lasting six months to a year, to ensure Indonesian medical professionals can operate the technology effectively.

The method has already been adapted to detect at least 12 types of cancer, including lung, breast, colorectal, liver, pancreatic, gastric, and ovarian cancers. He emphasized that the government’s existing cancer care program will integrate this technology, extending early detection capabilities all the way to community health centers (Puskesmas).

The initiative is part of a broader government strategy to strengthen services for cancer, heart disease, stroke, and uronephrology under the KJSU program. “With this network, early detection can begin at the puskesmas level,” Supriyanto noted.

From the South Korean side, SCL Group Chairman Lee Kyoung Ryul highlighted the precision of liquid biopsy technology, which can uncover cancer risks from blood samples with high accuracy. The use of liquid biopsy is a central element in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between RSCM and SCL Group.

The agreement outlines cooperation in advanced diagnostic services, medical knowledge exchange, and joint research aimed at improving healthcare quality.

Beyond technology transfer, the collaboration is designed to strengthen preventive medicine approaches, ensuring long-term improvements in public health. This marks the first partnership between RSCM and a South Korean health institution in the field of medical diagnostics. Both parties hope the initiative will lay a foundation for deeper institutional ties and open the door for international-standard medical technology to be introduced in Indonesia.
