RRI.CO.ID, Bandung – Indonesia is promoting village-based sustainable resilience across ASEAN through a panel discussion titled “ASEAN Village to the World: Partnership for Sustainable Resilience Through the Development of ASEAN Sustainable Resilience Strategies,” held in Bandung, West Java, on Thursday, 30 July 2026, on the sidelines of the 48th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM).

The event, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the ASEAN-ID Resilience initiative in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), supports Indonesia’s chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM). The discussion built upon Indonesia’s initiative during its 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship, which positioned villages and local communities at the forefront of building resilience to climate change and disasters.

The BNPB Deputy for Systems and Strategy and Chair of the 48th ACDM Meeting, Raditya Jati, said the forum aims to strengthen Indonesia’s role in translating the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 into concrete actions that deliver tangible benefits to communities.

“Indonesia believes that resilient local communities are the foundation of a resilient ASEAN region,” he said.

Director General for Village and Rural Development at the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions, Nugroho Setijo Nagoro, stressed that resilience begins at the village level. He proposed three key measures to strengthen village resilience across ASEAN: positioning villages as the main initiators, implementing village-based development cycles, and building multi-stakeholder support.

The Vice Dean of Universitas Padjadjaran, Yoga Andriana Sendjaja, underscored the important role of universities and youth engagement in preserving local wisdom to foster sustainable village resilience. Representing the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), Iwan M. Raharja praised Indonesia’s comprehensive Sustainable Resilience Strategic Review and expressed the organization’s readiness to support the advancement of this framework at the global level.

During the forum, Indonesia also proposed further discussions on the implementation of the ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on Sustainable Resilience, adopted in 2023. The meeting produced policy recommendations and a strategic partnership roadmap aimed at strengthening ASEAN’s position as a resilient, inclusive, and competitive region in addressing global challenges.
