RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) held a final memorial service for an Indonesian soldier, Cpl. (Posthumous) Rico Pramudia, who died from injuries sustained in an Israeli attack in Adchit Al‑Qusayr on Sunday, April 26, 2026.
Head of Mission and Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Diodato Abagnara, said the sacrifice reflects the strong commitment of peacekeeping forces amid a complex security situation.
“You gave everything you had for peace in this land. And for this, you have all our respect,” Maj. Gen. Abagnara said in his statement, as quoted by Antara on Monday, April 27.
The ceremony in Beirut was led by Abagnara and attended by several officials, including Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon Dicky Komar, Brig. Gen. Maroun Azzi from the Lebanese Ministry of National Defense and the Lebanese Army, and Col. Allan Surya Lesmana, representing UNIFIL’s Indonesian contingent. Their presence underscored the deep sorrow felt over the soldier’s death.
Abagnara emphasized that Rico had carried out a noble mission under the UN flag to bring peace to southern Lebanon. “As soldiers, as peacekeepers, we carry your mission forward. We will remain steady, we will remain united, we will remain vigilant,” he said.
UNIFIL stressed that the Israeli attack on its personnel constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006). A thorough investigation is required to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Cpl. Rico died on Friday, April 24, after nearly a month of treatment for injuries sustained in the March 29 attack in Adchit Al‑Qusayr, when an Israeli Merkava tank fired artillery. The same incident killed Cpl. (Posthumous) Farizal Rhomadon. Rico, who had been serving on his first overseas mission since early April, leaves behind a wife and child.
Indonesia has lost four soldiers in southern Lebanon in the past month. On March 30, Capt. Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sgt. Muhammad Nur Ikhwan was killed when their convoy came under attack.
In addition, two French soldiers serving with UNIFIL died after their patrol was attacked on April 18, highlighting the deteriorating security situation in the region. ***
