RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives’ Commission I, Sukamta, has urged the United Nations (UN) to conduct a thorough evaluation of protection mechanisms for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

His statement came in response to the death of an Indonesian soldier, First Pvt. Rico Pramudia, who was killed in an attack on the UNIFIL headquarters.

Sukamta stressed that the UN must acknowledge the real threats faced by UNIFIL troops on the ground. “A transparent and accountable investigation into this incident is necessary to ensure clarity and responsibility,” he said in a press statement in Jakarta on Sunday, April 26, 2026.

He also called on the Indonesian government to carry out a comprehensive review of security measures and deployment patterns of Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel, particularly in light of Rico’s death.

“The government needs to reassess security aspects, readiness, and deployment strategies for troops in peacekeeping missions, without diminishing Indonesia’s commitment as an active contributor to global stability,” Sukamta said.

He further emphasized that world peace must not come at the cost of unnecessary sacrifices, including those of TNI soldiers serving with UNIFIL.

“Every fallen soldier should remind us that peacekeeping requires a strong system, adequate protection, and a shared commitment from the international community,” he added.

According to reports, First Pvt. Rico Pramudia died after receiving medical treatment in Beirut, Lebanon, following an Israeli artillery strike on the UNIFIL headquarters. The incident occurred on Wednesday, March 29.

Rico’s death adds to Indonesia’s grief, bringing the total number of TNI soldiers killed in Lebanon to four.

The other soldiers who lost their lives in the mission were Maj. (Posthumous) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, MSgt. (Posthumous) Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Cpl. (Posthumous) Farizal Rhomadhon. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
