RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Netherlands has reaffirmed its close partnership with Indonesia while paying tribute to Indonesian peacekeepers killed in Lebanon, highlighting both solidarity and long-standing bilateral cooperation.

Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia Marc Gerritsen expressed condolences over the deaths of three Indonesian soldiers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), who were killed in a series of attacks in southern Lebanon in late March.

“I would like to express my condolences for the loss of three brave Indonesian soldiers who died while carrying out their duties in southern Lebanon,” Ambassador Gerritsen said at the King's Day celebration in Jakarta on Thursday, April 23, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He emphasized that Indonesia remains an important partner for the Netherlands, with cooperation spanning higher education, environmental initiatives, political consultations, and peacekeeping missions.

“We will continue to stand with Indonesia as it fulfills its responsibilities and plays its role in making the world a better place,” he said.

The event also highlighted 25 years of Indonesia-Netherlands cooperation in the water sector, which has focused on tackling shared challenges such as flooding, coastal protection, and ensuring clean water supply.
