RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian higher education institutions are stepping up efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of the nation’s healthcare workforce in the regional arena, focusing on curriculum development and joint research aligned with international standards.
A new partnership between Indonesia's Binawan University and Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) College of Health Sciences in Brunei Darussalam is designed to align the skills of Indonesian health graduates with international market demands, especially across ASEAN.
The collaboration encompasses curriculum development, joint research, academic exchanges, and shared scientific forums. Binawan University Acting Rector Farouk Abdullah Alwyni described the initiative as “a concrete step in providing relevant international learning experiences and fostering graduates who are adaptive, competitive, and ready to thrive globally.”
Beyond academic exchanges, the partnership also includes knowledge dissemination and technology transfer aimed at accelerating advancements in Indonesia’s healthcare sector. Both institutions have pledged to pursue sustainable research initiatives to support medical progress and raise healthcare standards across Southeast Asia.
JPMC College of Health Sciences CEO Chung Yea Fui emphasized the broader impact of the cooperation, noting that “this partnership opens significant opportunities for knowledge exchange and capacity building in healthcare, ultimately improving the quality of medical services in the region.”
As part of the agreement, Indonesian institutions will also review international healthcare service standards through Brunei’s hospital facilities, enriching references for national curriculum development. The goal is to narrow the skills gap between local health professionals and global benchmarks by integrating practice-based learning with international hospital networks.

This strengthening of international networks forms part of Indonesia’s national agenda to ensure that graduates of its health universities earn certifications and competencies recognized in overseas labor markets.

The cooperation includes academic exchanges, joint scientific forums, and the dissemination of knowledge to accelerate the transfer of healthcare technology to Indonesia. Both sides also committed to developing sustainable research initiatives to support advancements in healthcare and medical service standards across Southeast Asia.
Chief Executive Officer of JPMC College of Health Sciences Chung Yea Fui emphasized that cross-border collaboration plays a key role in strengthening human resource capacity in healthcare. “This partnership opens great opportunities for knowledge exchange and capacity building in healthcare, which will ultimately improve the quality of health services in the region,” she said.
As part of the collaboration, Indonesian institutions are also reviewing international healthcare service standards through hospital facilities in Brunei to enrich national curriculum development and reduce competency gaps between local professionals and global benchmarks.
