RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the series of working visits by President Prabowo Subianto to Russia and France, along with Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin’s visit to the United States, are strategic steps to expand communication with international partners.

Spokesperson for Indonesia's Foreign Ministry, Yvonne Mewengkang , said this reflects Indonesia’s open diplomatic approach and its active engagement with various strategic partners amid global geopolitical dynamics.

“We continue to open communication channels with all our partners amid the current geopolitical situation. These are the President’s diplomatic initiatives to consistently convey Indonesia’s free and active foreign policy—by opening dialogue and remaining open to communication with all our strategic partners,” Yvonne said after a press briefing in Jakarta on Thursday, 16 April 2026.

She stated that Indonesia’s multi-engagement policy should not be interpreted as inconsistency. She emphasized that these efforts are part of President Prabowo’s diplomatic strategy to reaffirm the country’s long-standing free and active foreign policy.

“If we look at it from the perspective that Indonesia can be accepted by anyone, anytime, that is a very good thing,” she said.

She reiterated that Indonesia does not align with any particular bloc, but instead prioritizes dialogue to maintain global peace and stability. Regarding Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin’s visit to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., Yvonne said it is in line with efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the defense sector.
