Indonesia's President Prabowo Meets President Macron in France Visit

RRI.CO.ID, Paris – Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto continued his European tour by meeting his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. His trip to France marks his second visit to the country this year, following an earlier visit in January, and comes after a prior stop in Russia.

Upon arrival at the Élysée Palace, President Prabowo was welcomed by President Macron. A formation of the French Guard of Honor greeted him with a drum band procession.

"The French Guard of Honor presented a military salute as a symbol of friendship and high respect for the visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia," the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat said on Tuesday.

The two leaders were seen shaking hands and briefly conversing before proceeding to their meeting. Following a one-on-one discussion, they attended a formal luncheon together.

"The one-on-one meeting served as a strategic forum for both leaders to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation across various priority sectors, while also exchanging views on evolving global dynamics," the Secretariat stated.

According to Prabowo's presidential team, Prabowo and Macron discussed boosting cooperation across various sectors, including the procurement of defense equipment and the enhancement of the defense industry. They also discussed cooperations on energy transition and the development of renewable energy, infrastructure, and transportation, as well as education and the creative economy.

This visit to France is his second of the year, following his trip in January. In this series of visits, France is the second country Prabowo visited after Russia, where he previously met President Vladimir Putin on Monday, April 13, 2026.

"After a meeting that lasted five hours with President Putin at the Kremlin Palace, the President immediately departed for France, with a travel time of approximately 3.5 hours, arriving in Paris around midnight," Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated.

Secretary Teddy emphasized that the meeting between Prabowo and Macron was not only focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation. It also served as an important opportunity for Indonesia to convey its strategic views on global developments.

"In the meeting, the President will not only strengthen cooperation with the French Government, but also present Indonesia’s position in maintaining stability and promoting world peace," he said.
