RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government has officially drafted a written response regarding the trade investigation conducted by the United States. Confirmation regarding the readiness of this response was conveyed directly by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, at his office in Jakarta on Monday, April 13, 2026.

In his statement, he emphasized that the United States is raising two fundamental issues. The main concerns are excess production capacity and allegations of forced labor practices.

“So, excess production. And second, regarding the import of raw materials linked to forced labor,” he said.

The Coordinating Minister noted that he, along with the Trade Minister, the Labor Minister, the Industry Minister, and the Finance Minister, had held a meeting and drafted an official response. He also emphasized that the investigation in question is not related to regulations.

Airlangga stated, “What’s being discussed is excess capacity. For example, there’s excess cement. We’ve never exported cement to the US. So we just need to provide an explanation.”

In this response, Minister Airlangga stated that Indonesia’s current trade achievements are the result of a healthy economy, not overproduction. The Indonesian government is also fully committed to continuing to eliminate forced labor through regulatory frameworks and law enforcement.

Earlier, in March 2026, the US government began a new investigation into tariffs against dozens of trading partners. Some of the countries under investigation include China, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, India, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, as well as Indonesia.
