French High-Speed Train TGV Hits Truck, Train Driver Dies

RRI.CO.ID. Jakarta - A major accident occurred at a level crossing on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in the Lens area of Pas-de-Calais, around 7:00 a.m. A truck and a TGV high-speed train collided on the section between Béthune and Lens, near the village of Mazingarbe.
The train was traveling from Dunkirk to Paris and was carrying 243 passengers. It had not yet reached high speed, traveling at approximately 160 km/h, according to Jean Castex, head of SNCF ( French national railway company).
The truck was headed to Angers and was carrying military equipment, including a mobile bridge. The impact was severe, with significant damage to both the train and the truck.
The train driver was killed in the accident. Emergency services are attending to the passengers, with two people treated for life-threatening injuries and 11 others for minor injuries.
Earlier reports indicated 27 injured, but the numbers have been updated. The Minister of Transport, Phillipe Tabarot and the CEO of SNCF are currently on site.
The accident is expected to disrupt rail traffic until the end of the day around Lens. The authorities are working to clear the scene and restore normal operations.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, with officials working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
