RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The United Arab Emirates remains secure and stable despite rising tensions in the Middle East, according to the country’s ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulla Salem Aldhaheri.

Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday evening, April 8, 2026, Ambassador Aldhaheri emphasized that the UAE’s defense systems and institutions continue to function effectively. “I affirm that the United Arab Emirates remains safe and stable. Our defense system is highly effective, our institutions are fully operational, and more than 200 foreign nationals remain safe and harmonious,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

He also highlighted the resilience of the UAE’s economy, pointing to strong banking liquidity and capital adequacy ratios well above international standards. “Our banking sector holds assets exceeding 5.4 trillion dirhams, supported by solid capitalization and liquidity,” Ambassador Aldhaheri noted.

At the same time, he acknowledged that the impact of ongoing conflicts extends beyond the Gulf and Jordan, affecting global markets. Around 20 percent of the world’s oil supply and 20 percent of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade pass through the Strait of Hormuz, with 80–90 percent of exports heading to Asia.

Ambassador Aldhaheri warned that disruptions in the region have already influenced global markets, driving up energy prices, shipping costs, and supply chain pressures. “In this context, Indonesia is also affected by rising fuel prices, higher consumer goods costs, and supply chain disruptions. This is not just a regional issue. It is a global one,” he stressed.

The press briefing was attended by representatives of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Indonesian religious leaders, including Nahdlatul Ulama chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf, underscoring the broader diplomatic and societal interest in regional stability.

The envoy’s remarks sought to reassure both international partners and local audiences that the UAE remains a pillar of stability, even as global markets feel the ripple effects of Middle East unrest. ***
