RRI.CO.ID, Vatican - Pope Leo XIV called for world peace in his Urbi et Orbi message. He delivered the message at Central Loggia of St Peter's Basilica , Sunday, 5 April 2026.

"Let those who have the power to unleash wars choose peace!" he told thousands of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square. He also urged anyone with weapons to lay them down.

While addressing the need for peace amid the global situation, Pope was also specifically urged to seek harmony through dialogue, instead of force. The same peace should also not be with "the desire to dominate others, but to encounter them."

He expressed concern with the current situation of the world, which is growing numb to violence and becoming indifferent. People, according to him, have become indifferent to the deaths of thousands of people.

Regarding the "ever-increasing globalization of indifference", Pope Leo echoed his predecessor. He mentioned Pope Francis' Urbi et Orbi Message in 2025 that said "What a great thirst for death, for killing, we witness each day in the many conflicts raging in different parts of the world!"

Concluding his message, Pope Leo invited the world to abandon every desire for conflict, domination, and power. He also asked the people to pray for God's peace in a world torn by wars, hatred, and apathy.

Urbi et Orbi is a traditional message given by the Pope during certain occasions, such as Christmas and Easter. The term itself means "To the City and the World".
