RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Asia-Pacific Justice and Democracy Forum (JDF) has strongly condemned Israel’s newly passed legislation that paves the way for the death penalty to be imposed on Palestinian detainees, warning that the measure represents a grave violation of international law and human rights principles.

In a statement delivered in Jakarta on Friday, April 3, 2026, JDF Asia-Pacific President Jazuli Juwaini described the law as a dangerous escalation.

“The enactment of this law is not only a threat to human life but also undermines the foundations of international law. The world must not remain silent in the face of practices that erode humanitarian values,” he said firmly, as quoted by Antara.

JDF stressed that the legislation contravenes the Fourth Geneva Convention and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, both of which guarantee the right to life and fair trial.

The organization argued that the law reflects discriminatory practices against Palestinians, risks worsening the humanitarian situation, and obstructs efforts toward a just and lasting peace in the region.

The forum also warned that the policy could trigger broader instability, extending beyond the Middle East and affecting global security. In response, JDF urged the United Nations and other international mechanisms to take decisive action to halt the law’s implementation.

Beyond calling for its repeal, JDF demanded guarantees for the protection of Palestinians’ fundamental rights, including the release of civilian detainees held in Israeli prisons.

The organization further appealed to the international community not to remain passive in the face of repeated violations, stressing the need for collective responsibility in upholding justice, humanity, and peace.

According to JDF, such measures are crucial to ensuring that international legal norms are enforced and to preventing further escalation of conflict that could deepen the humanitarian crisis in the region. ***
